{Remember} When Shopping for Bridesmaid Dresses

{Remember} When Shopping for Bridesmaid Dresses

Continuing on with your Bridesmaid’s Week at Ready or Knot, we are giving you some tips to remember when you are picking out your bridesmaid dresses.

1.  Shoes

When deciding between short or long bridesmaid dresses, something to consider is the shoe factor. With short dresses, your bridesmaids’ shoe choices will become much more of an issue to decide than if you go with long dresses.  Do you want them to be the same shoe, the same color, or something neutral like our last Wednesday Wedding Shoe pick?

With these short Jenny Yoo bridesmaid dresses - coordinating shoes is something you have to consider.

2.  Coordinating Jewelry with Dresses

Do you want a dress that will require lots of accessorizing or do you want the dress to stand on its own?  Think about earrings, necklaces and bracelets for your bridesmaids to coordinate with their dress.  We are seeing more of a trend for earrings versus necklaces for your bridesmaids (especially with varying necklines).  Too see more examples of this trend – check out our “Bridesmaid Dresses” board on Pinterest.

3.  Tattoos

Do any of your bridesmaid’s have tattoos you’d rather not have your grandma stare at the entire time your bridesmaid has her back to the audience during the ceremony? Pick a dress or hairstyle that makes sure to cover it.  (Airbrush makeup can also help!)

4.  Varying Body Types

One easy way to deal with different body types is to choose coordinating bodice styles with the same color and length. (This is also very helpful if you have any pregnant bridesmaids!)  Amsale and Anna Elyse are great options for this idea.  Jenny Yoo has great “sister” styles as well!

5.  Fabric Options

Just because you don’t think you like it on the hanger doesn’t mean you won’t love it on your bridesmaids. Be open minded to trying various fabric styles.

6.  Coordinating with Men’s Attire

Want Navy dresses but going with Black tuxes? You might want to re think your color combo as one of them will look faded.  Do you want both your bridesmaids and groomsmen in the same color (all black, grey, or tan/champagne)?  Or is that too monochromatic for you?  Don’t forget about tan/khaki or slate for your men, they can be great options to add some variation to the color palate!

7.  Fabric of Bride’s Dress

If you are wearing a gown with a more casual fabric (like Ivy & Aster’s Sweet Pea in Silk Chiffon Velvet Swiss Dot) you may not want your maids in a formal fabric like Silk Shantung or Dupioni.  Also keep in mind the color of your wedding dress so you can choose colors that really accentuate the color and style of your dress.

Remember – you need order your bridesmaid dresses at least 6 months before your wedding date to allow enough time for delivery and alterations. At Ready or Knot we are happy to coordinate the measurements (& payment) for your bridesmaids for you.
