Pinterest Picks – Gifts for Mom and Dad

Pinterest Picks – Gifts for Mom and Dad

Now that you’ve picked out your groom’s wedding gift, it’s time to shift your focus to your parents. Traditionally, brides also give gifts to their parents. Not only is a gift a great way to say thank you for all the help (financial and emotional) with the wedding, but also for all the love they’ve shown you over the years. While you can choose to get your mom and dad separate gifts, today our Pinterest Picks are something both your parents will enjoy.

Weekend Getaway

The Atwood House (left) and Country Club Plaza (right) make great weekend getaway destinations

We love the idea of giving a weekend getaway, especially for parents who never take a vacation. We recommend sending them to a vacation destination close to home so they spend less time traveling and more time enjoying their getaway. If your parents (a.k.a. your mom) like shopping, we recommend sending them off to The Country Club Plaza in Kansas City (only a 3 hour drive from Omaha!). There are a variety of hotels right on the plaza, plus food, shopping, and entertainment all within walking distance.

Bed and Breakfasts are another perfect weekend vacation spot for parents. The Atwood House in Lincoln and The Resting Place in Gothenburg, NE are two of our local favorites. If your parents are low key or simply need some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city, a B&B is the perfect destination.

Other favorite getaways include a trip to St. Louis, Okoboji, or a local winery.

Concert Tickets

Who doesn’t enjoy a live performance by their favorite band? Even your parents like to rock out from time to time. For the musically inclined mom and dad, we recommend giving the gift of concert tickets. Splurge and get floor seats or make arrangements for dinner before the show to make this night extra special for them.

Vintage Wine

Vintage Wine from Sokolin

Are your parents wine connoisseurs? Give them the gift of fine wine! Not just any wine, but a rare, vintage wine. Personalize this gift by selecting a wine from a year of importance to your parents. Your birth year or your parents anniversary year are both excellent dates to base your wine selection on. Online wine retailers such as Sokolin let you search for wines by year, ensuring that you find the perfect bottle.

No matter what you get your mom and dad, make sure it is something personal. Also, talk to your groom about what he plans to get his parents. If he hasn’t thought that far ahead, suggest these Pinterest Picks for them as well!
