What to Wear Under Your Wedding Dress
—
Many of our brides come to us asking for help on what to wear under their wedding dress. We worked up a simple buying guide to lay out everything we’ve found & what has worked well for many of our brides. We had a little help with our research from the wonderful ladies at Von Maur, in Westroads Mall.

BRAS
Of course the question on a lot of brides minds is what kind of bra will I need? Von Maur sells many different styles but by far the most popular is the strapless, especially for under a wedding dress.
This convertible bra is by Wacoal. The Red Carpet Convertible Full Figure Bra is made with a smooth seamless fabric. It also has Mobilon strips around the neckline and bottom of the bra so that it won’t slip around. If you are looking for a simple strapless bra that is light-weight then this is the bra for you. The plus side with this one is that since it’s convertible you can wear it with or without straps!
Another style that a lot of brides come in to Von Maur for is the Le Mystère bustier. These are great for brides looking for a lot of support and push-up. Le Mystère Soirée Short-Line Bustier is advertised as a sophisticated look for the modern bride. It is versatile in that the straps come off and it also has a low back so that it can accommodate almost any dress.
Other options:
Backless Strapless Bras – the silicone cups stick directly to your skin great if you are looking for a a little lift
Sew bust cups directly into the dress so you don’t have to worry about it on your wedding day (ask your seamstress)

SPANX
Now if you aren’t looking for support up top, you’re most likely looking for it in the tummy and buns regions. Spanx are a wonderous invention that will tuck everything that you want tucked and give you a smooth finish under your wedding dress.
There are enough different kinds that we could probably blog about them for a week, so we are going to help you out by telling you the most popular.
Slim Cognito Mid-Thigh Bodysuit is by far the most popular because it gives you the most control throughout the tummy and the upper thigh. This is perfect for the bride who wants to control just one area. The body-suit comes all the way up to right under the bra line and goes to right above the knee. It is also seamless so you don’t need to worry about a bulging seam popping out. If you have a low cut dress just make sure that they don’t come up to high.
There are other styles such as the briefs that will fit on the bottom just like underwear but still give you control in the tummy area. This is a picture of Slim Cognito Shaping Bodysuit. The only down fall to the brief is you have to get the fit just right because you don’t want to appear to have panty lines under your gorgeous, fitted dress. It is also seamless like the mid-thigh bodysuit. These would most likely work better with a shorter dress.
The Simplicity Convertible slip from spanx is nice as well. This one in particular can be worn with straps or without and gives you strong control. With these you want to be sure to get it fitted first before you buy. If you buy it too big, you won’t get control because it won’t hug in the right areas. If you buy it too small, you risk it rolling and bunching where you want it to look smooth.

We hope these ideas help you figure out what will work best for under you wedding dress. Don’t be afraid to ask the ladies at Von Maur questions because they certainly know what they’re talking about. Spanx brand has so many other kinds, in many colors, lengths, styles, fabrics, etc. and we just highlighted a few. If you want to check out the others they have that may work better for you, feel free to check out their official site. Von Maur carries most of them as well.
